The Gospel of the wedding feast of Cana highlights the first of the signs performed by Jesus and is the model for all, as it reveals the divinity of Him and opens the disciples' minds to the true meaning of the prodigious works of the Son of God.
In the Treatise of Miracles by Thomas of Celano, the prodigies of Francis of Assisi testify that the Saint had the power from God to "condition" water in at least four instances, with beneficial effects on him and other people.
We report here what happened at the hermitage of St. Urban, near Narni.
"The servant of God was in the hermitage of St Urban, tormented by a very serious illness. Feeling faint, he asked for some wine.
They answered that they could not bring it to him, because there was absolutely none.
So he commanded them to bring him water; then he blessed it with the sign of the cross.
Immediately what was previously pure water became excellent wine.
Thus the purity of the Saint obtained what the poverty of the place could not offer.
As he drank that wine, he recovered immediately and with great ease.
A miraculous change and a miraculous healing: two wonders that had transformed both the drink and the one who drank it.
They were ways of indicating how perfectly Francis had now stripped himself of the old man and transformed himself into the new man" (FF 1099).
